July 8, 2012 –Today we celebrated the life of Daniel J. Burke, beloved husband and father, son, brother, friend, board member, and educator. “A Life Remembered” stories were shared by Frank Meacham, Blue Knights alumnus and a dear friend for 30 years, Mark Arnold, friend and Executive Director of Ascend Performing Arts, and John Milota, a friend and colleague at IBM. The 2012 Blue Knights Drum and Bugle corps presented a heart-rending musical tribute at the memorial.
At the age of 49, Dan passed from physical life on June 22, 2012. Dan is survived by his loving wife, Gwen, and cherished sons, Coleman and Carson. Dan is also survived by his mother, Jeanne Burke; brother, Steven Kolby; extended family and countless friends.
The Daniel J Burke Memorial Scholarship has been established to carry on his love and legacy of the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps and World Percussion Ensemble. This scholarship will help aspiring percussionists.
